In 1976, Kenny Powers made the attempt for the longest car jump in – then – history. The plan was to have the rocket powered Lincoln Continental jump from Morrisburg, Ontario across the St. Lawrence River to Ogden Island, NY, a distance of 1 mile. See whether he made it or not.
