pop a cork with a sword
Wired has a tip that is ripe for New Year’s Eve - how to pop the cork on a bottle of champagne. Alternatively, you can skip out on Wired and rely on the following video that is not in English:

activitybook is the blog of the day
This is fantastic, activitybook is today’s blog of the day from the folks at Blog of the Day Awards. It is a very nice touch of recognition. Although, what I am most fond of is the wonderful write up that the site got:
Marty Finestones Activity Book - what can I say. I don’t care what […]

stuff on cats
I am by no means a cat person. That is not to say that I am a cat hater - I just would not have one as a pet, but I digress. I came across the site Stuff On My Cat and thought it is worth pointing out. The concept is simple: posting photos of […]

the dane cook backlash
I am going to assume that you know who Dane Cook is. You know that he is one of the hottest stand-up comedians at the moment, that he made Time Magazine’s 2005 list of the 100 most influential people, that he had his own HBO series Tourgasm and that he is starting to do movies. […]

The rules have changed for what songs get counted in the UK Top 75 music charts. Now downloads and other digital tracks will be included, which means that oldies and past hits could make it back on to the charts.

all the toilets in china
(source & copyright of image unknown)
Odd Planet put me on to the design of the outdoor toilets in Chongqing China.
The pubic toilets cover a mans privates but not his face, which has obviously aroused some curiosity. Local guards and employees in the area have used the outdoor restrooms, but most men find it much too […]

so that’s how you levitate
Here is a very strange video (no surprise) that I found on youtube. Some kid did a home instruction clip on how to do the ‘king’s levitation’, which I gather is some performance move designed to fool an audience in to thinking that one is levitating above the ground.
This child will have an interesting future […]

china releases its first climate change report - it’s not good
Agence France Presse reports that the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology has released its first report on the projected effects of climate change on the country. Things look rather dire.
Compared with 2000, the average temperatures will increase by between 1.3 and 2.1 degrees Celsius by 2020, the China News Service reported, citing the assessment.

jack black is blowing it
Sam Anderson, writing in Slate, has a bone to pick with Jack Black. Anderson believes that Black has squandered his talent by taking up roles in movies such as Shallow Hal, The Holiday and even School of Rock.
The core of Black’s talent is his inspired parody of inspiration. Each of his characters tries (but fails) […]

make your own pop
(C) Chow.com
Chow.com has this quirky feature on how to make home brewed ginger or root beer. I likes da root beer, so maybe this will be a project for me in the New Year. Maybe I’ll even start up my own root beer company. Or maybe I’ll just continue buying Dad’s root beer whenever I […]

a gallery of old girlie mags
For the last several years, the fastest-growing market in the magazine industry has been men’s periodicals–not Playboy or Penthouse, mind you, but rather a new array of publications that feature semi-nude pictures of young, would-be starlets. Led by British import Maxim, a fleshy blanket of imitators has covered newsstands: FHM, Stun!, Razor, Stuff, etc., […]

movie version of optimus prime revealed
It appears that UK movie magazine Empire will be debuting the look of the new Optimus Prime for the upcoming Transformers movie.
Of course this is just an artist’s rendering. There is something about the drawing of the eyes that remind me of Frank Miller’s style. Must be just me. Want to get a bigger taste […]

how to build a cheese plate
Planning a New Year’s Eve bash or New Year’s Day brunch and thinking about putting out a plate of cheese? Well, then this how-to build a cheese plate guide is just for you. It comes down to placing the mildest smelling cheeses first and building out to the strongest from there: mild to stinky my […]
