u2 ‘window in the skies’
The latest U2 single is called ‘Window in the Skies’. It is found on their new singles compilation ‘U218 Singles’. The video is now out there and is a quirky, but notable. It features clips of many of music’s greats performing their own songs, but with the ‘magic’ of editing it gives off the impression [...]

how the post-modernists influenced today’s retailing
Lyotard’s name would not be the first that springs to mind when tracing the roots of contemporary retailing and business. Of course many unlikely thinkers and doers, from Sun Tzu, a Chinese general and purveyor of top strategy tips, to Sir Ernest Shackleton, a British explorer celebrated as the ultimate team-builder, have been unwittingly roped [...]

audio book of areas of my expertise is free (for a limited time)
I’m a big fan of John Hodgman’s work (see his McSweeny’s writing) and tore through ‘Areas of My Expertise’ with glee. Well, word has come that one can get, for a limited time, a free download of the e-audio book of the text from iTunes. Of course this works only in the U.S. Being a [...]

jammin’ on the one
You have watched the ‘Cosby Show‘ when you were a kid. Well, remember that episode featuring Stevie Wonder? What stands out the most for me from that episode was Theo saying “jammin’ on the one!” Stevie had the Huxtables in his studio and made a recording using some dialogue and sounds made by the family. [...]

cosby clothing
Speaking of the ‘Cosby Show‘, I was walking by a store last night and there was a pretty wild shirt in the window. Affixed to this shirt was the label’s tag and that tag was for Cosby Clothing. So yes, now you can buy a real Cosby sweater and not just a Cobsy-esque sweater. Wild.

why we can’t trust auction sale reports
Art auction after auction seems to yield new records in sale prices. As the Art Newspaper reports, however, these figures are not always accurate.
So in this murky world of rumour, affirmation, denial and reaffirmation, are auction prices the only reliable ones? After all these prices are made publicly, published by the auction houses, listed on [...]

skywalkers parade in miami
(C) Emily Martinez
Back on December 7, Miami art collective Friends With You invaded the beaches of Miami during Art Basel 2006 with the ‘Skywalkers’ blimp parade. The parade featured a dozen plus baloons on parade. Now that is an event that I wish I was a part of.
Emily Martinez (not sure who she is) has [...]

will ferrell: what his peers are saying
GQ has named Will Ferrell one of its ‘Men of the Year’. Rather than interviewing or profiling him for this ‘honour’, they have opted to solicit and post quotations from those who have worked with him. Many, many of the (false) and zany comments are funny and should be read. Go. Go read it [...]

how to care for your cashmere garments
Have some cashmere in your wardrobe? So do I. Only today did I look up how best to care for them. To my surprise, this is what I found:
- Do not wear the same garment frequently, allow the garment two or three days’ rest after one day’s wearing.
- Do not wear the garment next to [...]

ford signs kelis to push their new vehicle
Ford Motor Co. has signed hip-hop singer Kelis (of Milkshake fame) to pitch their new Edge crossover (which I like the styling of). Using Kelis is all part of Ford’s hope to reach the ‘urban’ market. Ford’s press release on Kelis (nice rhyme!) uses the word urban 12 or so times. There is a song [...]

a part of the koch records story
When Koch Records launched in 1999, it struck deals with seasoned acts like KRS-One, B. Legit and RZA – earning them a lasting rep as the resting place for older rappers past their prime. Last year, megastar 50 Cent – who calls the A-list Interscope Records his home – famously dissed rival Fat Joe, [...]

dikembe mutombo: heart of gold
I thought you should know about Dikembe Mutombo. He plays basketball for the NBA’s Houston Rockets. Not only is a league All Star, but he is a tremendous humanitarian. Born in Kinshasa, Congo, Mutombo has given back to his home in massive way. Earlier in 2006, he was a part of the opening of the [...]

From Seed magazine:
Circumcision helps prevent HIV, frankincense is in danger, and investors are warned to consider companies’ records on climate change.
Read it all here.
