Evidently some people, at least in England, are not smart enough to know how to cut a watermelon. Consequently, the folks at the Tesco supermarket chain have taken it upon themselves to modify watermelons to be squared so that they can be sliced like bread.

The source article in The Daily Mail does not state that Tesco is genetically modifying the melons, but rather using Japanese growing techniques.

As I understand it the change only affects the shape, and thus apperance, of watermelon, but not the taste. Nonetheless, it still irks me to see a square watermelon for the sake of it being square.
