The blog Good Math, Bad Math has this instruction piece on how to perform standard deviation calculations, which they tell me is basic stat stuff. If memory serves correct, I learned this stuff in my grade 12 finite math course. Obviously I have not used it since then, but then again I am in law and not a science-esque field.
