val kilmer makes music

From Paste Magazine:

The New York Observer reported recently that erstwhile heartthrob Val Kilmer is “shopping” for labels to release his album of original recordings. Apparently titled Val Kilmer: Sessions With Mick—as in Val’s pal and partner-in-musical-crime Mick Rossi, not Jones or Jagger or even Fleetwood—the newspaper warns the song cycle “run[s] the gamut from foot-stompin’ […]

business does not heart huckabee

Bloomberg reports that wealthy Republicans and Wall Street dislike Mike Huckabee more than they do Hilary Clinton.

…he threatens the uneasy if effective coalition Republicans have counted on for three decades: abortion opponents and other social-issue activists supplying foot soldiers, proponents of tax cuts and business-friendly regulatory policies putting up the money and getting the […]

what to do with plastic container lids

Found this on Curbly, a list of alternative uses for plastic container lids. While some do not seem so practical (not sure I get the garbage bag one), the list does have some uses. Chief among them the non-stick pan scrapers.

# Sink stoppers: placing a plastic lid over a drain will create a vacuum and […]

the eiffel tower gets a new restaurant

The AP write about a new restaurant located in/on the Eiffel Tower. The restaurant, called Jules Verne, operates under different circumstances than a typical eatery given its location.

Though only 410 feet up, there’s no gas cooking because of safety concerns. All the decor had to be light so as not to weigh on the […]

Arguably one of the best films of all time, Fellini’s 8 1/2 is funny, surreal and compelling. If you have a couple of hours to invest on a good film over the holidays, consider watching this one.

icing vs. frosting

Tonight’s dinner ended with dessert and tea. That is not the interesting part (or even intersting to begin with - this is just the segue). While we were enjoying the chocolate cake, my brother in-law raised a quite perplexing question: what is the difference between icing and frosting? None of us had the answer. The […]

stop smiling with nigela lawson

Stop Smiling magazine’s interview with Nigela Lawson is available online.

She describes herself as “clumsy” in the kitchen. Often deprecating, Lawson is quick to point out that — despite the monikers bestowed upon her — she isn’t a trained chef. “I’m a writer — and what I want is for people to get lost in the […]

rolling stone magazine and camel cigarettes make indie rock angry

Stereogum has the low down on a brewing controversy where Rolling Stone magazine “wrapped” mention of a top list of indie rock artists around a Camel cigarettes ad that could confuse the reader to think that those artists are a part of the Camel campaign. I remember seeing the ad and thinking just that.
